Teenage years, also known as the adolescence period where the child crosses the threshold of childhood and steps towards adulthood, is the time when nature also implements many physical changes which prepares the body for the natural function of reproduction. The changes that take place in the body also affects the hormonal secretion as the glands that were latent starts functioning and new hormones are produced in the body which brings in not only physical changes but also behavioural changes during the puberty period.
So it is often found that frequent changes take place in the mood of a teenager due to the instability of the hormonal secretion in the body. This makes it very difficult to understand the sudden changes in behaviour of a teens as is often the case you will find that a teenage child who is in a very happy mood in the morning suddenly gets irritated in the afternoon and appears to be in a very bad mood by the time he or she goes to bed. The energy level in teens is also increased which brings an improvement in the total functioning system of the body.
In the present century most of the teens face the problem of hormonal imbalance as they are exposed to many kinds of chemicals which are present not only in the environment but also in the food and water that they consume. The common chemicals that can cause hormonal imbalance can be found in pesticides, garden and lawn cleaners, plastics, chemicals used in beauty products as well as harmful chemicals present in the air from traffic and manufacturing industries which enters the body and affects the glands that produce hormones. Along with this the stress that a teenager has to face in daily life causes hormonal imbalance.
The adrenal glands regulate the functioning of the hormones in the body but these glands are disturbed by stress and other external causes which affect the normal functions and in turn develop the hormonal imbalance in the teenagers. This leads to the emotion instability and many other problems related to the hormones. The exhausted adrenal produces large amount of steroid known as cortisol which reduces the production of the hormone progesterone. This causes the hormonal imbalance in the teenagers which leads to the retention of fats, hence weight gain and commonly referred to as puppy fat.
Though some of the physical and behavioural changes that take place due to the hormonal changes and imbalance can be attributed to the natural process of the overall physical change which will go away in due time when the body adjusts. But if the symptoms continue after a certain prolonged period of time then it becomes a matter of concern as it maybe the case that a hormonal imbalance has become established in the body and needs immediate treatment so that normal life is not affected.
The main symptoms of hormonal imbalance that can be observed in the teens are insomnia, anxiety, migraine, frequent headaches, depression, asthma, back pain, emotional instability and many other symptoms which should not be taken lightly but it is essential that immediate investigation should be done by consulting the doctor and proper action should be taken so that the causes of hormonal imbalance can be overcome to help the person lead a fit and healthy life.
